There will probably be more photographs of Discovery, just not tonight :)

Space shuttle Discovery was retired after completing her mission last week to the International Space Station. In all, Discovery flew 39 missions completing 5,750 orbits, 150 million miles, and almost a year in space since she first blasted off in 1984.

She looks well used, indeed!
I was just a kid when these fancy new reusable craft started going up, and I remember thinking then what a great time it was to be a kid, thinking that maybe we'd run into an X-wing or Millennium Falcon up there....
And of course I remember exactly where I was when Challenger went down. And as the years went on, it seemed like there were dozens of launches that we didn't even notice unless we were paying attention. It just wasn't that big of a deal anymore. And yet those brave men and women were doing the seemingly impossible, making great leaps in science and walking among the stars while we sipped our lattes, oblivious to the gravity keeping our asses in our chairs. The things we take for granted.
Still, anything that reignites the childhood imagination for just a little while ain't a bad thing. Thanks for the memories, and the great photos.
