Because the Night by hansepe Because the Night by hansepe
OK... goofy name :O_o:

Out at midnight to turn off the Christmas lights... noticed the wonderful long shadows and the fog...

Hope you enjoy.

Cropped and sized, USM only.

Note: I'm a sucker for long exposure shots at the moment... ~amengualone and *kilgore-trout got me hooked

I love the long shadows, and the depth of them. They're so dark. :|

A border perhaps? ;P

I'm terrible with borders... but will see what I can do...

Thanks!

Terrible with borders? Do you want some help? They're really not that hard to do. I always did mine using the copy paste function and a couple new blank canvases, but apparantly there's a far easier way to do this, and I know now. If you want some help, just lemme know. I'm more than happy to oblige. :aww:

 Terrible with borders... not with actually making them, but with picking something aesthetically pleasing. :| If I use white it should be black, thin should be thick, red should be green and vice versa...

Thank you for the offer, but I'm afraid you can't teach an artistic eye... and I don't have it :(

Ooh. I understand now. If it's any consolation, I find that artists who stick to one type of border throughout all their work are just as effective as those who change according to the piece. :) So if you chose to do a black border thing around all your works, it would be just as fine as making them coloured or something. :P

Either way, I do understand your dilemma, and so I will leave it at that.

Well, you've convinced me... I'm going to use some borders on my photos again and hope I don't mess them up too bad. Of course, I'm too stubborn to just stick to one... :giggle:

Thanks for the encouragement!

Good! Borders are always a good thing. Remember, keep it simple.. black border or white border. The coloured ones always end up looking tacky after some time.

I like the title - it's a nice song (and I love using song titles as titles :O )

wonderful shadows, and long exposure is fun. You did use a tripod, right?

I think I'll probably name more photos that way in the future - both after songs and movie titles.

Tripod required

Tusen takk!

Have you ever tried talking to someone and only use song titles? That's actually quite funny ;)

I totally agree with you... a little ROT would have worked wonders... just couldn't find a spot and couldn't crop it right without losing stuff...

I'm in search of a better shot though - this really whets the appetite for one

Thanks D

Wish I could make some time to go out at night and get some good shots. Its been some good nights too, with the air cold and the river warm a think fog rolls over the levee at about 6-8 at night. When cars drive throught it, kinda looks like a missle plowing through smoke (when you get a time exposed shot of it)
Any way I'll stop rambling Nice shot as alway Per, its been too long since you last update :)

We've got plenty of cold, crisp nights coming so there are lots of opportunities!

I'm going to try be a little more active now that my back is behaving more properly :)

Lovin' your work Per :D I like how your eye is drawn to the source of the light - the shadows lead to it and even the phone wires are pointing towards it. The tones are quite moody too.

Thanks Del, I was hoping to get that kind of effect with this shot. And I loved what the lighting did

I'm going out prowling one night to find a similar scene that isn't so busy in the background, the suburban setting is OK, but I want more! ;)

Simply beautiful:)
I love that orange tone of the light, it looks really nice lighting up the dark objects
The silhouetted trees have a really nice shadow too!
This is a simple shot, but for some reason i was drawn to it to comment on it;)
Beautiful capture Per:clap:

Right now for me it's the ulimate in playing with light... I'll move on again shortly, but its so much fun (and dark soooo early, which I love) that I'll have to keep from flooding my gallery :O_o:

Thanks Josh (and we need more pics from you!)

 OMG, Per. This is incredible! Did you crop this at all? I am just playing with it, cropping off some at the and it makes the whole thing less busy and draws more attention to the shadows. So I 'm wondering if you have more of the bottom of the pic that you may have cropped off....

But anyway: it's pretty stunning the way it is.

(Sorry I missed the Glompage once again. I don't know where my hours are going these days. And how am I ever supposed to find them when I start school again in January???)

Any :glomp: glompage is good glompage

Yeah, I cropped this mostly to get rid of some garbage on the left... there is a little bit that came off the bottom of the photo but not much. I'll have to play with the cropping some more because I'm not happy with the house across the way there, it got left because I wanted the top of that tree in the BG to show.

  :glomp:
